Waimea Falls in Hawaii

                For home evening in Hawaii on September 24, 2018 we went to Waimea Falls. 

               It was about a thirty minute drive along the water front to the entrance to the falls. 

                                                The hike up to the falls was beautiful.

                                 There were so many pretty flowers to see along the way.

                                         We saw this poster as we got closer to the falls.

                        There were lots of beautiful green trees and bushes along the way .

                                         I enjoyed seeing the lily pads in the water. 

                                       The flowers along the way were beautiful too.

                                   This was our first glimpse of the  falls from the bridge. 

                                    Here we are in front of the pond made by the waterfall.

 When we got there Tyler and Ryan had on their life jackets and were swimming around the falls.

                                          They waved to us standing next to the waterfall.

                                                      This was a great home evening activity.

               We passed some beautiful streams of water as we started the hike back down.

                                     Mark said this stream reminded him of Arizona.

                                                    We saw some interesting trees. 

 This little archway into a garden was built as a memorial to a lady that loved coming here.

              All of the beauty reminded us of what the Garden of Eden must have looked like.

                                                          It  was wonderful to enjoy nature.

                                             The weather was beautiful for our little hike. 

                                                             We took lots of pictures. 

                                                        This was a big interesting tree. 

                              I know that my family will return often to enjoy the beauty. 

 This used to be some statues on sacred ground for the original settlers of the Island.

                                           There were some historic sites to discover. 

                                 I  took this photo as we drove back to the Farm.

                                                    The sunset over the ocean was beautiful.

Beautiful Hawaii

 I flew to Hawaii on September 22nd to visit Mark and Marlene and their children Tyler and Ryan,  I brought scout shirts and merit badge books for Mark who was just called to be scout master plus other things they needed.  The flight took sixhours and 39 minutes. 

                               Marlene and Tyler came to the Honolulu airport to pick me up. 

 It was a beautiful drive to Hauula where they live. 

 For most of the drive we could see the mountains on one side and the ocean on the other. 

                         We drove by the China Man's hat which is a famous landmark. 

                    China Man's Hat is a little Island out in the ocean that looks like a hat. 
                                     
                           Hawaii has lots of beautiful trees and is green everywhere.

                Most of the drive to their home was along the ocean with the mountains on the other side. 

                                           The ocean is just a short walk from their home. 

                       Marlene is standing in front of their home on the farm where they are serving. 

                                               Mark made us an avacado sandwich. 

                                                              They have a big back porch.

                         This is the view they have of the mountains from their back porch. 

                                           Mark has a beautiful garden along their back fence.

                                       There is a coconut tree right next to their back porch. 

 Marlene gave me a beautiful lei when I arrived.  It was so good to see where my family is living and to spend time with them. 

              There are lots of farmers who are growing crops for their families here on the farm. 

                                                  Hawaii has lots of beautiful flowers.

                               They have lots of beautiful flowers around their  home. 

                       Marlene reports the weather and rain fall each day as part of her duties. 

                                                    There are flowers everywhere.

                                           I saw lots of new varieties of flowers in Hawaii.

                                             Marlene took me on a tour around their yard.

                                         Marlene picked a bread fruit for me to sample.

                                                 This is an interesting fruit and very different.

                     Marlene shows the long green beans they picked from the farm. 

                                                       Mark planted taro in his garden. 

                                         Mark has a beautiful garden along their back fence. 

                                      They have beautiful flowers growing every where.

 Tyler went to the Homecoming Dance at his high school.  He is enjoying all the new culture and having some wonderful experiences.

                                                 I always enjoy eating with my family.   

                         Sunday morning we had scripture study before leaving of our meetings.

                                              I went with them to the Hau'ula 4th Ward. 

 Ryan is finishing a poster of photos taken at their Scout Overnight here at the farm the night before I arrived.  Mark is working hard to help the boys earn their Eagle Scout Award. 

                                                           They had plenty of bananas to eat.

 I rode around the farm with Mark and Marlene as they checked out all of the gardens.  It is a very big farm. 

                                        These bananas will make for lots of good eating. 

                               They had lots of new plants in their gardens that I was not familiar with.

                                      Some of the garden plots on the farm were very beautiful.

                  Mark knows most of the farmers and helps them grow crops for their families.

              We saw some sheds that some of the farmers have built on their little plot of land.

 The farmers don't sell any of the produce from their gardens but have lots of good food for their families and friends.

 I was surprised at how much Mark and Marlene have learned about Hawaiian culture and the plants that will grow in this area.

                      They  are blessed for all the good service they give.
