Flake Reunion in Snowflake- July 20, 2918

It has been several years since I was able to attend the Flake Reunion in my home town of Snowflake.  I met my sister Nena coming from Texas with her daughter Lynita and friend Debbie.  Rey and Margaret invited us to stay at their home.
Before the Flake Rodeo they had foot races for the different age groups.
                                                    Next came the boot races.
The Flake Rodeo was held at the old Snowflake Rodeo grounds.
The Grand Entry carrying the United States flag began the rodeo.
Everyone stood at attention during the National Anthem and then opening prayer.
Throughout the rodeo there was steer riding.  All my Flake relatives had a great time.
One of the events was the Barrel Race for the different age groups.
It was hot but we tried to shade ourselves with umbrellas while we watched the different events.
The Rescue Race was another event in the Flake Rodeo.
The money calf was a fun event.  The children tried to get the money that was stuck to the calf as it ran around the arena.
Another fun event was the Stick Horse Keg Race.
Then they had the Keg Race for the various age groups.  This is played like musical chair with a keg being removed each time and the contestants after to ride up around the barrel and return to sit on a keg.
For the grocery race they had to have three people on their horse and then ride down for one to pick up a watermelon, another a glass of water and another an egg.  Then they all had to get back on the horse and run to the finish line.
This was a fun race to watch at the Flake Rodeo.
Following the rodeo we had a pot luck dinner on the lawn between the "Big House" and the Stinson Museum.
It was great to visit with cousins.
Keith joined us at the table and later Garry and Janet came to eat with us.
This photo shows my brothers Keith, Garry and Rolf.
After the dinner we visited my grandfather's home that we lovingly call "The Big House".
There are so many memories in every room in this home.
We were looking at a photo you can almost see of all of us on the Front Porch as small children.
This photo in the "Big House" shows my Daddy and Mother and all of us taken years ago.
My Daddy is shown here with his 14 brothers and sisters that grew up in this home.
We visited the Snowflake Monument.  You can see my childhood home in the background.
Nena and I enjoyed showing Lynita and Debbie around Snowflake.

Snowflake was named for our great grandfather.
Many important events in my life took place in this Snowflake Church Building just across the street from our home.

The last event in the Snowflake Reunion was a program at the Main Street Chapel.   Garry's grandsons played their violins for the program.
My brother Rolf gave some of his original cowboy poetry.
My brother Rolf and cousin Evelyn are the oldest living grandchildren of my Flake Grandparents.
My oldest brother Rolf and his wife Jean at the Flake Reunion.
I enjoyed spending time with my brothers.
We couldn't visit Snowflake without going to the cemetery where  my parents, grandparents and great grandparents are buried and many uncles, aunts, and cousins.   Thank  you Rauna for going up there with me.
After the program we visited at Rey and Margaret's home with some of our relatives.
This is the home where we lived when I was born.  We moved when I was about seven tothe other end of the block.

Jodi's Performance of Jerusalem in Snowflake

I went with Rauna to Snowflake on July 19th for the Flake Reunion and Snowflake Pioneer Days.  I took this photo of the Main Street Church as we drove by.  Many important events in my likfe took place here.
Snowflake Union High School where I attended High School.
We had  high school classes in the old Snowflake Academy Building.
We got in Snowflake just in time to attend the production of "Jerusalem-A Musical Story of Faith" directed and written by my sister-in-law, Jodi.
The musical told of Lehi and Sariah and their sons leaving Jerusalem, their sons going back for the Bronze Plates and back again for the family of Ismael as told in the beginning chapters of the Book of Mormon.
I  took photos of some of the scenes in Jerusalem.  It was a big production with lots of cast members, costumes, original songs and stage settings.

My brother, Keith, recorded their production of "Jerusalem"

I especially enjoyed watching my niece Natalie perform.
She had a cute part and was always in character.
Jodi did as great job  writing the play and her daughter Julie  helped her direct it.  Julie's daughter was also in "Jerusalem -A Musical Story of  Faith"
