When we walked out of the apartment where I was staying with a missionary friend from the Nauvoo Mission on July 24, 2013. we saw these horses getting ready for the parade.
Next to it was this big truck which transports the Clydesdale Horses.
July 24th is a Pioneer Day Holiday in Utah.
It was great to be in Salt Lake for the parade.
This is something that I have always wanted to do. These beautiful flowers are along main street where the parade comes.
We walked by the Beehive and Lion House and saw these beautiful holly hock flowers.
The missionaries that live in these apartments invited us to sit on their balcony to watch the parade.
We had a great view to look down on the parade above all the people lining the streets.
The theme of the Pioneer Parade in Salt Lake City was "
Pioneers- Our Anchor to the Future".
The first entry in the parade was the United States Flag.
Behind them came people dressed like the Mormon Battalion and the pioneers.
Next came the handcarts.
This handcart was being pulled by the children.
There were lots of people watching the parade.
Every pioneer parade needs to have a covered wagon.

There were lots of bands in the parade.
President Uchtdorf was the Grand Marshall.
He and his wife greeted the crowds.
President Uchtdorf had lots of security around him.

As I watched them playing bag pipes I thought of Kenneth and his mission in Scotland.
There were lots of beautiful horses in the parade.
The cloud cover made it pleasant to watch the parade.
We saw lots of buggies and carriages.
The horses and riders were very colorful.
This young man stood with one foot on each horse. I am amazed that the horses stayed together.
This entry won the Mayor's Award.
The Chinese dragon moved up and down.
The Chinese float that followed was beautiful.

The back of the float was cute.
This float won the Children Choice Award.

The bands playing added to the atmosphere of the parade.
We saw lots of antique cars.
This was a cute float depicting a State Fair.

This entry by the Polynesian Cultural Center won the President's Award.
The Polynesian Cultural Center is celebrating it's 50th Anniversary.

I enjoyed being with Dorothy, my Nauvoo missionary friend.
We had a wonderful place to see the parade.
It was wonderful to not be in the crowds of people on the street.
I made another friend, Barbara is Dorothy's missionary companion .
At the parade we met another missionary that served with us in Nauvoo.
The flowers along the street are so pretty.
People were picking up their blankets to take home.
The workers were cleaning the street after the parade.
We walked by the Eagle Gate on our way to the Conference Center.
We stopped to enjoy the beautiful flowers at the Beehive House.
Barbara is a missionary in the Family History Center.

The flowers are all so colorful with lots of variety.
I spent the afternoon working in the Conference Center.
