Early Tuesday morning, August 27, 2013 we loaded into our car for a fun vacation on the Oregon Coast.
Our first stop was the Washington State Capital in Olympia, Washington.
We had a beautiful view from the other side of the river.
Dean took a beautiful picture of the capital with his phone.
We went across the Columbia River on this bridge.
The Columbia River separates the states of Washington and Oregon.
There were lots of bridges across the river.
I saw lots of lumber stacked ready to ship.
I appreciate Dean and Jennifer inviting me to join them on their vacation.
It was great to be included in all of the fun things they have planned.
Dean was good to stop at interesting places as we traveled.
Their car had lots of room and was great to travel. I loved a road trip.
We saw this sign for Amish Furniture and decided to stop and check it out.
We had to travel about three miles back in the country to find it. Along the way we saw lots of farm animals.
This cute Amish buggy was sitting in front of the store.
They had some beautiful flowers in front of their home.
The Amish furniture is beautiful and well made.
This is a cute little wood cook stove similar to what we had in my childhood.
This "murphy" bed was beautiful. It easily opens up to let down a mattress to sleep on.
We liked the vintage prints.

This piece of furniture can be a table, high chair or rocking horse. Jennifer said that she has one that her Grandpa made for her.
The Amish bedspreads are beautiful.

On the bench outside the Amish shop it says "
Welcome Friends".
They have a horse and buggy for the mailbox also.
The drive along the coast was beautiful.
The Columbia River at Astoria, Oregon flows into the Pacific Ocean.
There was a ship in the harbor.
We got gas and had some delicious potato soup at the Deli in Safeway.
I like this photo I took of the flags and the bridge over the river. I didn't really want to get the McDonald'ss sign in my photo however.
There were lots of bridges everywhere.

We drove along the coast.
We stopped at a Thrift Shop to see if we could find any great buys. Devyn tries on the high heel shoes.
Dean and his girls like to try on the hats. Jennifer did find a great game to play on our vacation.
The thrift store was on "Ensign Lane".
Salt was very important for the Lewis and Clark expedition to preserve their food.
We drove through Seaside, Oregon and planned to come back for an entire day of sightseeing.
Seaside is the end of the Lewis and Clark Trail.
The Seaside Carousel Mall will be a fun place to return and visit.

The plaque says, "
Cannon Beach was named after the cannon washed ashore on this beach from the USS Sloop of War "Shark".
The ship was wrecked while attempting to leave the Columbia River on September 10, 1846.

We had some beautiful views as we drove along the Oregon coast.
The Ecola State Park is a sightseers paradise.
Jennifer had a vacation home rented for us on Rockaway Beach for three nights and four days.
Our home was just a couple of blocks from the beach.
Our home was painted blue with a bright yellow front door.
It was a great vacation home for us with two bedrooms and a pull out couch in the living room where I slept.
Our home also had a wagon, two fold up chairs and lots of beach toys to take to the beach.
The girls could hardly wait to go down to the beach.
Devyn pulled the wagon with all of our playthings.
We passed this bush filled with red berries.
We also passed these beautiful flowers on our way to the beach.

We were at the Rockaway Beach.
The Beach has seven miles of sandy shoreline.

The beach is called "
Twin Rocks" because of these two big rocks.
I enjoyed watching the excitement of Devyn and Brielle as they walked into the ocean.
We enjoyed the big waves coming up.
It was great being with my family at the beach.

Everyone had a good time.
They all loved the beach.

and the ocean breeze.
The girls wanted their Dad to take them out again and again.
I enjoyed just sitting on the beach and watching them.
Dean and Jennifer are a beautiful couple and enjoy each other.
Jennifer helps the girls make sand castles.
I enjoyed watching the seagulls on the beach.
It was too cold to spend too much time at the beach.
We promised the girls that we would return tomorrow.
It is so wet that the ivy grows up the trunk of the trees.
This is dairy country. The train is decorated like a cow.
We ate dinner at Denny's and bought groceries for the next couple of days at Fred Meyer's.
We were happy to have a nice home to relax in after a fun and busy day.
