Utah Valley Marathon

 Lauren and I went down to cheer on the runners as they finished the Utah Valley Marathon on Saturday, June 9, 2018.

                             Emily made good time on the half marathon she ran.

                    She got a ride from Arizona with a friend that was also running the marathon.

 It was fun for her to run from the canyon to the Provo City Center Temple.

We also cheered on Lauren's grandpa as he finished the half marathon.

The runners had on their shirt "Pain you Enjoy".

Emily had lots of family support at the race.

Granddaughter Lauren at EFY

Sunday evening, June 4th my granddaughter Lauren spent the night with me so that I could check her into EFY  (Especially For Youth) on Monday morning.

We ate breakfast together

 We enjoyed visiting with Lauren's cousins's Adam and Andy and their mom Jenni while we waited for time to register.

                                          I enjoy spending time with my granddaughter.

 There were 16,000 youth that checked in at the  Marriott Center for "Especially for Youth".

 We saw another of my granddaughter's ,Janae, who is a counselor at EFY but was not a counselor for Lauren's group.

                             Janae was assigned to the Taylor Hall at BYU for the week.

                                                        Her roommate had not arrived yet.

 On Saturday after a week at EFY I picked up Lauren.  This is the group of girls that she was with.

                                    They had a group hug before they all left to go home..

                           I have enjoyed spending time with my granddaughter, Lauren, this week. 

Provo Pioneer Village

I am enjoying serving as a docent at the Provo Pioneer Village for another summer. 

These are the original homes that those early pioneers built in Provo.

A doctor's carriage at the Pioneer Village.

                  A cooper shows how to make water tight barrels.  He also makes brooms.

The Blacksmith was an important activity for the pioneers.  They made nails, eating utensils, horse shoes. and lots of other things needed for pioneer living.

                        Last summer they made a video showing the Provo Pioneer Village.

 I am featured on the video telling about the Turner Cabin.  This was one of the first cabins made in 1853 in Provo and the first babyi n Provo was born n this original cabin.

In the video I tell about the artifacts in this pioneer home.  I want to help keep in remembrance the faith and sacrifice of those early pioneers.  

Carl and Tori's Wedding reception

                       Carl and Tori's wedding reception was held in Tucson on June 2, 2018.. .

           They made the windmill, gate, and other western decorations for their reception.

                                          The bales of hay added to the western theme.

                                              They had saddles sitting on the fence.

                                          They served Mexican food at the reception.

                                             Everyone seemed to be having a great time.

                                    Carl and Tori have lots of nieces and nephews.

                                                          But only one grandmother.

                         Mark and Marlene have another one of their children happily married.

                        Carl and Tori greeted lots of their friends at their wedding reception.

                                                    It was a beautiful evening in Tucson.

                         Carl and Tori enjoy a dance.  I am happy that they have each other.

Luncheon after Carl and Tori's Wedding

After Carl and Tori's wedding we enjoyed  a nice luncheon together.

I was invited to sit at the head table.

                                           I was the bride and groom's only grandmother.

 They played a fun game where they lifted up a shoe to answer different questions about who they might think would be the first one to respond.

          They showed a video of Carl and Tori's through the years of their lives up to now.

I was invited to give some memories of my grandson Carl and some advice.

Carl thanked his family and friends for their love and support.
