Lunch for Indonesian Senior Missionaries

I invited the Browns and Shipleys to lunch on January 24th. They served with us as senior missionary couples in Indonesia.
They are "snow birds" enjoying the Arizona Sunshine. It was great to read Jay's poem "Isles of the Sea" and to visit about Indonesia and the land and people that we love so much.
Margie sent me this fabric to hand quilt a baby quilt for Jay. It has Dr. Seuss characters. It will be a fun quilt to make.

Our Oldest Grandson and Wife Visit

Our oldest grandson, Kasey and his wife Emily, drove down from Provo, Utah to visit us on January 21, 2011. They arrived about 9 PM.
Emily enjoyed looking at all of our family pictures displayed on the wall of our home. It was fun for me to tell her about each picture.
Saturday morning Kasey helped me get his Grandpa up and dressed and then helped him walk around the circle to his chair.
It was a beautiful day so we took Jay with us and went for a drive to see some special sights in Arizona. Our first stop was at the Temple.
I was happy that Kasey wanted to have his picture taken with me in front of the temple and the temple visitor center. We parked on Main Street to take these pictures.
Kasey and Emily enjoyed the Arizona sunshine.
I stayed with Jay while they took a quick trip into the Temple Visitor Center.
We then drove to Tempe and around the ASU Campus. Kasey and Emily are posing here in front of the Muslim Mosque .
The Tempe City Hall is close by with its unique design.
Kasey and Emily did a cute little dance in front of the Sun Devil Stadium on the ASU Campus.
This is the new LDS Institute Building on the ASU Campus.
It is a beautiful building in a great location. There is a nice parking garage next to the Institute Building.
We drove by the US Airways Corporate Building which is built at the same location where I first worked for America West Airlines.
We drove around Tempe High, McKemy and Broadmor Schools and past our home on Broadmor and then past the Tempe Stake Center shown above.
We then drove by our home on Geneva and Jay's Dental Office. All these places have so many memories.
Dallin came over in the evening to visit Kasey and Emily on his way home from taking someone to the airport.
It is always a treat to have our grandchildren visit.
Amy is good to come and spend time with her Dad.
Ray also dropped by so I took his picture with Kasey and Dallin.
I made enchiladas and Spanish Rice for dinner.
Jamie, Chelsea and Emily came with their families to visit with us and Kasey and Emily.
The girls asked if I would take a funny picture of them.
We had a good visit together. We are so blessed to have a good family who visit often.
Adrianne came later and stayed and played games with Ray, Kasey, Emily and me.
Sunday morning Kasey and Emily went to church before leaving for Utah.
It was been so good to have them here.
Thank you Kasey and Emily for your visit. We will look forward to your return.

Enjoying Miriam

Miriam is a great piano player. Sunday evening, January 16, 2011 while we were waiting for Ray to come to dinner she played the piano while Amy and I sang the hymns.
Their Dad loves the hymns. We enjoyed seeing the smile on his face as we sang.
I enjoyed too singing our favorite hymns with a great piano player.
When Ray came we sang, "Brightly Beams our Father's Mercy". Dad really enjoyed that because it brought back memories to him of singing this with his brothers.
I like to take pictures as we are around the table ready for Sunday dinner.
What a joy to have Miriam here with us for a couple of days.
Monday morning Miriam gives her Dad a big hug before Amy takes her to the airport for her flight back to Iowa.
Miriam is our oldest daughter and has set a good example for all her younger brothers and sisters.
Thanks Miriam for taking time out of your busy schedule to visit your parents. Thanks for all the little acts of kindness you did for us.

Amy's New Floors

Saturday afternoon January 15, 2011 Miriam helped me get her Dad into the car and we drove down to Amy's home to cheer her on as she worked so hard on her floors.
Amy did lots of cutting to get the boards right for her hallway.
It was lots of work.
Everything had to be cut perfectly to fit.
The floors add so much to her home. It makes it seem larger and makes her home seem new.
It took lots of cutting to get the boards cut right to fit around three different doorways off of the hallway.
I held the board while Amy used the power saw.
Miriam enjoyed spending time with her Dad.
It was such a nice day that we took Dad out on Amy's back porch.
He enjoyed the fresh air and the sunshine. Amy put dark glasses on him so the sun wouldn't be in his eyes.
Miriam enjoyed all of the sunshine and a good visit with Amy.
Amy and I are enjoying my sweetheart and her Dad.
Amy is so good to her Dad.
He loves his baby daughter.
We are enjoying so much having Miriam visit us. She is enjoying the sunshine since it is so cold in Iowa.
