Annie Get Your Gun

July 17, 2010 I enjoyed watching our grandson perform at the Hale Theatre in "Annie Get Your Gun".
Dale was cast as Little Jake, Annie's little brother. He had a cute part and did a great job.
They performed in a theatre in the round so they had their audience all around them.
The walls of the theatre had Buffalo Bill and Annie Oakley posters around the walls.
I especially enjoyed the song, "The Girl That I Marry", "You Can't Get a Man with a Gun", "There's No Business Like Show Business", and "Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better". I remember Margie and Melvin singing that song at talent shows, etc.
Dale had a cute part. He was fun to watch.
Dale had lots of fun with the other actors.
These are Dale's sisters in the play. It was a well done production .
I enjoyed watching all of the actors.
Annie did a great job.
Dale loves to perform and really gets into his part. He provides us with lots of fun entertainment.

Trip to Tucson with Amy

Amy invited us to drive down to Tucson with her on Tuesday, July 13, 2010. Amy had to be to her trade show at 7 AM so we met her at her home at 5 AM. It was a beautiful drive as we watched the sun come up.
We spent the day in the hotel room while Amy took care of her trade show.
In the evening Amy took us for a ride around Tucson. This is the convention center where Amy has been setting up her trade show all day.
The architecture of Tucson is different with no green grass or street lights.
We drove by the University of Arizona and remembered bringing down daughters to participate in Girls State.
We also remember supporting Melvin while he attended medical school here. We went to his white coat ceremony, parent's days, and his medical school graduation.
Our drive around Tucson was really a trip down memory lane.
Melvin and Tami, Margie and Russ and Amy have all lived in Tucson at various times.
Kaitlyn was born in the University hospital. They moved when she was just five days old so that Melvin could complete his last two years of medical rotations in Phoenix hospitals.
We made many trips to Tucson when we owned "Mr Goodcents" to support Amy as she managed this sub shop.
Melvin and Tami began married life in an apartment in this complex in Tucson.
This is where Amy lived for some of the time while she was managing "Mr Goodcents".

Let Everything That Hath Breath Praise the Lord

This was the title of the Sunday School lesson I taught on July 11, 2010 on the 150 Psalms. I began the lesson by having as class member read Psalms 23, "The Lord is My Shepherd" . I then read prophecies in Psalms about the life and mission of Jesus Christ and then had the class tell how they were each fulfilled. We read together Psalms that expressed gratitude for (1) the Creation of Heaven and Earth, (2) The Savior's Mercy, Forgiveness and Love (3) The Scriptures and (4) The Temple. We then talked about Psalms 116:12 "Whast shall I render unto the Lord for all His benefits toward me?" and how we can show our gratitude for the many blessings we have. In Psalms 4:5 it says to "Trust in the Lord" and we talked about how we can put our trust in the Lord. To end the lesson Psalms we read the Psalm 150 which is the last Psalm. I enjoy teaching the gospel and am grateful for the opportunity.
I tried to get a better picture of my souvenirs from our visit with Margie, Russ and Lucy in Korea last month.

Rebekah came to stay with her grandpa so that I could go to an endowment session at the temple on July 14th, 2010.
I am grateful to my sister, Nena, for providing family names to do the temple work for. I pray that they will accept the work that we perform for them.

USA Birthday 2010

Since July 4th came on Sunday this year we celebrated our Nation's birthday on July 3, 2010.
I began the day by having my own flag raising ceremony using the flag holder that Melvin installed for me the last time he visited. I am happy to now have it low enough that I can fly our American flag on all the holidays.
We went down to the Keating Ward for the traditional breakfast and the flag raising.
The scouts in the ward mounted the flag.
I am grateful to have the privilege of pledging my allegiance to the United States of America...one nation under God with liberty and justice for all.
Jay and I were then invited to go over to Mark and Marlene's ward activity at Cardon Park behind their home.
We got there just as the fire truck arrived.
It was great to see our children and grandchildren at this holiday celebraton.
The firemen sprayed water on the children who were playing on the grass in the park.
This was a great way to cool off on a hot morning.
I enjoyed seeing the children having a good time.
This was a great way to celebrate the "4th of July" on the 3rd of July this year.
I think the firemen had a good time too.
Our grandchildren were all wet but happy.
Jaron had lots of fun cooling off in the water.
Its great to have Rebekah home from BYU enjoying some fun with her brothers and sisters.
After the activity we drove over a couple of blocks to see where Mark has his community corn patch. I liked the scare crow they have in the middle of the corn field.
The horses grazing in the field next door seemed to be enjoying the holiday also.
Our street had lots of flags flying on it.
We had fried chicken and corn on the cob for our holiday meal.

Arizona's Celebration of Freedom

Jay and I enjoyed going to the "Arizona Celebration of Freedom" held in down town Mesa on Friday evening, July 2, 2010.
The Symphony of the Southwest presented "A Salute for America" with lots of patriotic songs.
It was excellent. I also enjoyed the reading that the Vice Mayor of Mesa gave with the orchestra background.
Their performance made me proud to be an American.
Another event we enjoyed was "The Miracle of America, the Birth of a Nation".
This was an art, narrative and musical concert presented by the Heritage Academy.
I am grateful for those founding fathers and their fight for independence and their insight to write up a constitution where we could have freedom. I am grateful that Heavenly Father helped them to make a constitution where there could be freedom to allow the gospel to be restored here in America.
We also attended a great presentation of the history of the United States Flag.
I am grateful that we could attend these outstanding performances on this weekend as we celebrate the birthday of The United States of America.
