Enjoyed being with Dean, Devyn and Brielle
January 16-17, 2009 We had a great visit with Dean, Devyn and Brielle in Portland, Oregon. We enjoyed being with Dean and our cute granddaughters. We read books, played games, made ladybug masks and just had fun together.
January 16, 2009-Visiting Dean for his birthday in Portland
We flew to Portland to help Dan and his daughters celebrate his birthday. Dean was at work when we arrived so his friend picked us up at the airport. She took us by the Portland Temple on our way to Dean's home.
Dean opens his birthday gifts from us and Devyn and Brielle.
We celebrated Dean's birthday by taking him out to Sweet Tomatoes Soup, Salad and Pasta Buffet

Disneyland with Melvin and Daughters
January 13, 2009- I had the most wonderful day. Melvin called and invited me to spend the day with him and his girls at Disneyland. Melvin offered to pick meup at the airport in themorning and bring me back in time to catch the last flight out. Since I have free travel and the planes were not loaded it worked out great. The park was not busy and we rushed from one attraction to another and finished the day by going to 19 different attractions.
Kaitlyn loved driving her Dad around in the Bumper car.
Ashley was my driver. We had a great time.
Kaitlyn enjoyed the Lightyear Asto Blaster in Tomorrowland.
The girls were so cute in their Minnie Mouse shirts and Mickey Mouse ears.

Our Snowflake Arizona Heritage
On Friday, January 9, 2009 we had a great visit to Snowflake which is my home town. Miriam and Kayla flew to Arizona from Iowa and spent a few days with us. Kayla was wanting to go to Snowflake to get pictures for a Documentary Video she is making for her school history day report on William Jordan Flake. Rauna and Jamie wanted to come to. I had a great time sharing my memories growing up in Snowflake to my two daughters and two granddaughters.
Our first stop was the Snowflake Temple. Then we went to the cemetery where we visited the graves of my parents, grandparents, and great grandparents. William Jordan Flake is Kayla's Third Great Grandparent.
An important stop was the Snowflake Monument telling about the naming of Snowflake for William Jordan Flake who was the founder. We took a three generations picture of the Becks and also the Mortensens. Next to the monument is the Church where many important things happened in my life such as my baptism, high school graduation, missionary farewell and my wedding recepton.
Kayla got lots of information for her report at the Stinson Museum which is where William Jordan lived and the only house standing when he purchased the Snowflake valley and started a settlement.
We also enjoyed visiting the home of my grandfather James Madison Flake which is called "The Big House". There are lots of memories for me in this home and also the home where I grew up across the street from the church.
Uncle Rey and Aunt Margaret insisted on feeding us before we traveled back to Mesa. It was a great day reliving and sharing memories with my posterity.

A Fun Family Outing-Canoeing on New Year's Day
I was grateful to be invited to Bartlett Lake to go canoeing on New Year's Day with my children and grandchildren.
Fred arranged for eight canoes so that all 23 of us could enjuoy a fun time together.

Some of Our End of Year Activities
On Christmas Day we visited the Ellingsons and Mortensens to see what our grandchildren got for Christmas and then Amy invited us over to her home for dinner. Sunday, December 28, 2008 our granddaughter Rebekah Ellingson and her seven brothers came over to visit. We enjoyed playing a game of dominoes together. Jay and I enjoyed so much the beautiful lights at the Mesa Arizona Temple. I took a picture of Jay by the display of Joseph and Mary on the way to Bethlemen. The poem he wrote about Joseph's thoughts on his way to Bethlehem has been set to music by four different musicians. Nathan and Chelsea peformed with their LIGHT Performing group and sang some beautiful nambers. I especially enjoyed listening to them sing, "Child of Promise".

Christmas 2009
We had a wonderful Christmas. Christmas Eve Ray, Amy, Dad and I had a Israeli Candlelight dinner, read the Christmas story together and had a nice home evening. Afterwards we all opened our traditional pajamas that I had made alike for everyone. Christmas morning we had breakfast together, opened our stockings and then had our traditional races into the tree. Afterwards we enjoyed exchanging gifts with each other.
